Unity’s David Helgason Steps Down

Published:  October 27, 2014    Category:  3D Graphics, Games, Software    Published by:  GriT
Last week, the big news came down that the second co-founder (only 1 remains now) of Unity Technologies has stepped down, to be replaced by former EA CEO John Riccitiello. As the high-collar styled public head of Unity, the news of Helgason leaving his position of CEO was definitely a surprise. One has to wonder if the fact that Unity Technologies being owned by Chinese investors has anything to do with this recent move. Time will tell where this change will lead - and maybe it wouldn't be so ridiculous that Unity is sold to EA and perhaps eventually bought by none other than the great Satan Autodesk. Side note, it's strange that Ubisoft Toronto Managing Director Jade Raymond also stepped down to "pursue other opportunities" which sounds more like euphemism for "I got told to leave but am receiving a fatass package that is sweet enough to last me a few years before I need to find a job". Hmmmmmm...

Things are going down at one of the biggest game-development technology companies.

Unity chief executive officer David Helgason is stepping aside to let former Electronic Arts chief John Riccitiello take over that job. Unity is a technology company that makes game-creation tools for developers. The engine makes it easy for studios to build one game that they can quickly release on nearly every platform. That includes new-gen consoles like PlayStation 4 as well as smartphones and tablets.
