‘Super City’ Developed using Blender, Gimp and Krita

While we are not huge fans of Facebook games, we would like to point out that "Super City" - a game released by Russian studio Playkot - has seen tremendous success and is an awesome example of the strength of open source software in the hands of talented artists. Since its launch in Russia and then Korea and Japan, "Super City" has seen 4 million combined users from yesterday till now. "Super City" was 2 years in the making and was made initially using Blender, Gimp and Krita.. but now have come to depend on only Krita and Blender. See artist Paul Geraskin's message regarding "Super City" after the break!

Super City’ is a social network game whose game assets were all developed using Open Source software. Paul Geraskin reports.

Paul writes:

    Hello Friends!

    Russian company Playkot has been released social game “Super City” on FaceBook. We are really happy with this event! 2 years of development with Krita, Blender and Gimp. It’s really nice to use such tools. We used blender with internal rendere, then Cycles appeared and we moved to it. For Texturing we used Gimp firstly but since December 2012 we fully moved to Krita as it’s more powerful tool for painting textures. We hope to see more Krita + Blender integration with sharing layers and easy painting.

    Super City already was tested in Russian social networks like www.vk.com and www.odnoklassniki.ru and even in Korea and Japan. :)

    This game was played 4 millions of users in Russia, Japan and Korea. And all these people saw Krita and Blender art! :)
