Everyone has been working their fingers to the bone to get Krita 2.9 in tip-top shape. For Beta 2, there was a large focus on squishing bugs, fixing crashes, as well as finding memory leaks. There are way too many changes to include everything in the release notes, so here are some highlights from the past month (as well as some fresh builds to get your hands on!)
The Material System in Arion is getting incredible improvements for version 3. As an example, the new 2-sided material allows the use of two completely different materials for the front side and the back side of a thin object (without a volume). This can be used to simulate sheets of paper, tree leaves or a set of playing cards.
Wacom has announced today, the soon-to-be-released 2nd generation Cintiq Companion 2! Like the standard Wacom fare, this baby is not cheap...even at its 5 different price points (for each model level). Anyway, the specs are after the break and we'll keep you posted on when it becomes available. Side note - does anyone feel that the Wacom site has taken a turn for the worse? The fonts are pretty ugly and even this product page is just plain boring. What happened to the design/web guys from before?
Check out these massive spaceship designs done by concept designer Mike Hill. They are big, modular ships that are over a KM long, created for Edge Case Games. You can see more work by Mike at heavyunitdesign.com or karakter.de, where Mike is co-founder and art director at Karakter Design Studio, based out of Berlin.
The first release candidate for 2.73 is available now. Check the release notes. Aside of improvements in many areas (and 2D/3d vector animation!) a lot of work was done on stabilizing and fixing.
Turbulence Fluid Dynamics (TFD), from Jawset Visual Computing, makes high quality simulations of fire, smoke, dust and other gaseous phenomena (not fluids). TurbulenceFD is available for both Cinema4D and Lightwave 3D, along with a 2D version for After Effects.
