MoI users, version 3 is now out (been for some time now, but we didn't realize it till now..thought it was still beta)! Lots of nice new improvements like Deform Flow/Twist, more Extrude options, NSided hole filling, added Loft options, Booolean subset operations, and more!
While there are a lot of people modeling cars in 3D, there are probably a high percentage of them who are not familiar with those who are doing automotive surfacing (using precise NURBS modeling packages) and work with high precision (for actual manufacturing purposes). This tutorial by Ali Ismail gives a glimpse into that world, and will help you if not only more appreciate the world of automotive surfacing/styling, but produce more accurate-looking rendered results for your design models (cars, boats, industrial-design objects, etc.).
Tired of packing your UV-Layout for 3D Meshes ? The main purpose of this small handy Tool is to compress your UV-Layout and save you a lot of time. IPackThat reads and writes Alias Wavefront .obj files, which can be used by any 3D Modeling Tools. IPackThat is on Steam Greenlight - vote for it here!
Here's another video showing some new features of ZBrush 4R7, which is slated to be released next month. The video is a demo done by Pixologic artist Joseph Drust, at the 2014 CTN Animation EXPO, and takes a closer look at ZModeler, ArrayMesh, NanoMesh and QMesh.
Neverceneter is doing a sale of $119 off of regular price for Silo (for PC+Mac OS) - which means you can pick up Silo for $40! A personal note from ZBrush developer Ofer Alon, to give us all a status update on when to expect ZBrush 4R7. Ofer had originally planned to have this 4R7 release before the end of year, but alas moving from 32-bit to 64-bit is taking longer than expected, so to maintain a good user experience for everyone, the decision was made to post-pone the release until January 2015. Good to know that there are still software developers out there who care about the quality of their product. And may they never get bought. At least, not for a very very long time.
