All registered MODO 801 users will now find Service Pack 3 (SP3) available on the My Products page of their Foundry account. 801 SP3 contains almost 100 bug fixes and improvements, improving stability and correctness. In addition, SP3 adds the following features - Alembic I/O has been updated to support point cloud import and export, and streaming of static and variable-polygon-count meshes and curves. Adds a 45-degree rotation constraint when using Mesh Paint in Drop mode, by using the shift-key modifier. Adds a 90-degree Y Rotations channel to allow rotation snapping in 90 degree increments for Replicators.
Version 1.14.1 is primarily a bug fix release and is highly recommended for all users who are running version 1.14.0. It addresses various issues including an important performance issue in the Splice Maya integration and an important stability issue in KL. There are a couple of other minor features that have been added; see the release notes for details. Fabric Engine applications built for 1.14.0 should work with 1.14.1 without modification.
Solidsmack.com has reported the end of 123D Catch, 123D Design and 123D Make, based on a post from the official Autodesk 123D blog: "If you have been using the web based versions of the 123D apps that run in your browser, you probably noticed that they have gone bonkers. We’re well aware and have been anticipating the need to shut them down as the plugin support that allows them to run within the browser is no longer supported. So, today, we are sad to see our trusty web based apps go, they were a trusty platoon while they were here!"
Check out this teaser video showing the bridge between ZBrush and KeyShot. With the anticipated modeling capability coming out in ZBrush 4R7, this bridge will no doubt provide artists with an easy way to see their work in a polished and rendered state. Side note, this is an incredible boost for KeyShot devs, so we are happy to see them partner up with Pixologic this way.
The Unity 4.6 release contains a new UI system and includes x86 support for Android (you can now select FAT, x86 or ARMv7 as a build target). This will allow you to export for x86 Android devices, like the new Nexus player from Google. You can find out more details about what is included in Unity 4.6 on the Release Notes page after the break.
