The Material System in Arion is getting incredible improvements for version 3. As an example, the new 2-sided material allows the use of two completely different materials for the front side and the back side of a thin object (without a volume). This can be used to simulate sheets of paper, tree leaves or a set of playing cards.
V-Ray 3.0 for 3ds Max Service Pack 1 is now available for download. V-Ray RT GPU now supports hair and fur, subsurface scattering and light cache. In addition, we’ve added support for Microfacet GTR / GGX BRDF, which is ideal for hard surfaces such as metal.
Delivering upon the promise of an even faster physically-based biased/unbiased renderer, improvements of Thea Presto which supports NVIDIA CUDA technology for its GPU engine were made possible. While staying true to their principle that combination of CPU and GPU devices provide stunning visual quality and short render times, release 1.4 provides a range of new robust features and improvements.
The makers of Arion renderer has announced that they will no longer be supporting 32-bit version of their rendering application, which only makes sense since probably just your grandmother is using 32-bit hardware these days. In addition, they have announced the adoption of CUDA 6.5, which means that the next builds of their products will feature explicit support for sm_50 architectures like NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 and others.
The Keyshot team has built on features and updates that were released with KeyShot 5, adding new advanced procedural textures with many options, Sørensen Leather materials (via KeyShot Cloud) and Federal Standard colors. They’ve also added improvements with the ability to now edit patterns, add scattering to instances, and render all Cameras and Viewsets via the queue. KeyShot now has multi-touch support for touch-enabled devices, Retina display support and import for PTC Creo 3.0 and CINEMA 4D.
