Swedish visual effects and digital animation studio Important Looking Pirates, have published a breakdown of the work they did in "Crossbones", which was done with Maya, V-Ray, and Houdini.
A couple of guys in Argentina did this 10-second fan film in tribute of Terminator, and were learning Blender for it a long the way. Check out the amount of 3D and compositing work they did for it - congrats to them on a job well done!
Awesome move from the new owners of eyeon - you can now download the full license of Fusion 7 for FREE - which you can use for commercial and personal work. How does this compare to The Foundry's noncommercial Nuke license that you can only use after work hours? Doesn't even compare.. this is a good move for all of us!
Have a look at this amazing animation test showing Popeye and the gang in glorious full 3D. As a kid, I can recall the comic drawings of Popeye and seeing it now realized in colour and in full form, is just a testament to Genndy's talent and eye for detail. We can't wait to see this when it comes out in 2016!
This year's IBC 2014, Blackmagic Design today announced its acquisition of eyeon Software, Inc., a leading developer of high end digital compositing, visual effects and motion graphics software for the feature film, commercial, television and broadcast industries. eyeon, headquartered in Toronto, Canada, is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Blackmagic Design.
That's right - Transformers director Michael Bay wants to turn Industrial Designer/Concept Artist Daniel Simon's concept book "Cosmic Motors" into a film. We would be happy just to experience all of those cool concept designs as VR walk-a-arounds in a 1:1 ratio...In any case, we're excited and happy for Daniel Simon (knew him before Cosmic Motors was released into the wild) - he has come a very long way since, working on Prometheus, Oblivion, TRON and many others.
