You have to see this stunning video by Ramtin Ahmadi, a CG artist based out of the United Arab Emirates. Insects was a personal project that Ramtin worked on during his spare time after work and on the weekends. He produced the animated short in its entirety, from concept, modeling, rigging, rendering, compositing, music and sound design. It took him between 3-4 months, using ZBrush, Maya, Arnold and Nuke X. Microsoft has released an app for Surface Pro 3 users, to allow for customization of your stylus pen settings. One can hope that they sooner rather than later add the option to set your button functions (middle mouse click, double click, etc.) like that which you can do with your Wacom stylus. At least getting custom pressure sensitivity and bottom button control is a start - get it at the Windows App store!

Fabric Engine has announced the availability of FE 1.13 for download. New changes include OS X support, KL inheritance, reloading of extensions and enhancements to GPU Compute for KL, Fabric EULA change and many others. Fabric Engine are also scheduled to release new betas for Fabric for Max and Fabric for Houdini, and also Oculus Rift support.

The Contours Retopology tool is an addon for Blender that provides quick and easy ways retopologize cylindrical forms. Use cases include organic forms, such as arms, legs, tentacles, tails, horns, etc. The tool works by drawing strokes perpendicular to the form to define the contour of the shape. Immediately upon drawing the first stroke, a preview mesh is generated, showing you exactly what you’ll get. You can draw as many strokes as you like, in any order, from any direction.
