V-Ray 1.7 for Softimage is now available for download at the Chaos Group Downloads page. Some of the new features and updates include added support for Softimage 2015, support for scene time source image sequences and ICE user normals and animated ICE vertex colors and ICE weightmaps.
The third monthly bugfix release for Krita 2.8 is out (whoops we missed the 2nd one)! Download your Windows installer now, or get your distribution's updated packages! There are quite a few bugfixes and improvements, which you can see the full list of after the break.
Next Limit Technologies has released its Maxwell Render V3.02 plug-in for CINEMA 4D. This update includes a wide range of improvements, especially for particles and volumetrics. Xfrog is a procedural organic 3D modeller that allows you to create and animate 3d trees, flowers, nature based special effects or architectural forms. Xfrog is available as a Mac OS, Windows, and Linux plug-in for Maya, Cinema 4D and as a standalone application. Hans Rudolf "Ruedi" Giger (5 February 1940 – 12 May 2014) was a Swiss surrealist painter, sculptor and set designer. He was part of the special effects team that won an Academy Award for Best Achievement for Visual Effects for their design work on the film Alien. He was named to the Science Fiction & Fantasy Hall of Fame in 2013.

Otoy, the developers of OctaneRender, has announced the availability of a demo version of OctaneRender for Blender. With the demo version, there are a few limitations which include a limit of 1000 x 600 render resolution, watermarked viewport and render output, saving Viewport renders have been disabled and LiveDB access is not available. Windows and Linux ports supported currently.
Autodesk has announced today that Mudbox will be available for users on a monthly basis, for the cost of $10 USD. That's a pretty big deal, considering the previous cost of the software ...$750? Can't find the price on the Autodesk site now...but they've even dropped the price of Mudbox (a license to own) to $495 USD. That $10 is a pretty nice move and looks way more attractive than The Foundry's quarterly rental option for MARI ($585 vs Mudbox's $40). Check it out!
