Sunday Flashback #26

Published:  February 16, 2014    Category:  General    Published by:  GriT
As with any company, it's always in your benefit to call-out customers who've switched from a competitor product to yours. Alias|wavefront was no different! Here is Grand Design, a studio in the UK (now defunct or renamed) who switched from Lightwave to Maya! More interesting are the reasons why...

Pyxel Edit

Published:  February 15, 2014    Category:  3D Graphics    Published by:  GriT
Pyxel Edit is a pixel art drawing application especially designed for working with tiles. Place tiles to form a level, edit them directly to see how they all work together, then export your tileset and the level data, and load it into your game. Tiles can even be flipped and rotated, still being editable and synced. This feature is inspired by the awesome Pixothello and Cosmigo Pro Motion, but taken one step further. It also supports making animations, and exporting them as sprite sheets or animated GIFs. Pyxel Edit is built in Adobe Air and runs on Mac and Windows. (it reportedly also runs well in Linux under Wine).

Krita on Steam!

Published:  February 10, 2014    Category:  2D Graphics, Software    Published by:  GriT
Imagine Krita running on a huge television set in Big Picture mode with a wireless Wacom tablet... Create awesome fan-art for your favourite game, or textures for your marketplace mods. If you are on Steam and would like to see Krita on Steam - sign in and vote for it! On a completely unrelated side note, well...maybe somewhat related.. Silo2 is available on Steam too! Nice to see that application not disappear into oblivion. Not bad at $80 for basically your stripped-down Maya modeler (we are talking about a few versions back anyway). //UPDATE: Krita has been greenlit!
